A Cold Dark Place

The Bush administration has long made clear America's position on the environment: God put it here for us to exploit. In fact, god expects us to exploit the environment for his glory. And, besides, since the end-times are nigh, we won't be around long enough to suffer any nasty consequences ... like when a continent sized chunk of ice breaks off of the polar ice cap and causes sea levels to rise to catastrophic heights overnight.

And now, thanks to the sponsorship of the U.S. petroleum industry, the Bush administration will soon be able to tout a "scientific" study concluding that global warming is actually good for human beings.

(As a side note, apparently most Britons agree with Americans: we're all for the environment, but not if it means sacrificing uncontrolled growth in our economy or our right to spend each and every day burning 7% of the world's output of oil in our cars.)
