Attention Florida voters: You have nothing to worry about. We've got you covered.

First there was the specter of Walden O'Dell, CEO of Diebold Inc., a major manufacturer of electronic voting machines, who is also a prominent Republican fundraiser, promising to "deliver the election for the 'President.'" Don't worry, we were told, Mr. O'Dell it was just a G.O.P. fundraising letter and he certainly didn't literally mean that he would "deliver the election." Except that Diebold continues to refuse to subject their software and machines to independent review citing trade secrets.

Then last week there was the interview with Senator Bob Graham who, noting that about half of Florida voters will use electronic voting machines in November, they still, "do not have any verifiable backup in case one of those machines malfunctions or there's a challenge to the accuracy of the machines because (Florida) Governor (Jeb) Bush and his administration have stonewalled the efforts to get a paper trail behind these electronic machines."

So, this November, as your vote disappears into some electronic voting machine, you'll just have to trust that it is properly counted. Afterall, we wouldn't want to intrude on Mr. O'Dell's political activism or Diebold's trade secrets. And we certainly wouldn't want to bother Governor Jeb Bush and his administration to provide an audit trail. Besides, in a pinch we can always call upon the U.S. the Supreme Court.
